Maintaining the beauty
of Watch Hill

Keep The Horses Flying!

The tradition continues today.

In 1889, the original mission of the WHMLIS was to "develop, improve and beautify the village, to secure public health and cultivate public spirit as well as to quicken the social and intellectual life of the people."

Over the years, the charge has expanded to:

  • Maintain the library in the Memorial Building

  • Sustain the planted islands in the village

  • Showcase local artists in art and photography shows

  • Sponsor children's programs

  • Assist with local attractions, including the Lighthouse, Merry-Go-Round, and the Chief Ninigret and The Dreamer statues.

  • Restore of the Village Park on Bay Street

Activities Abound!

WHMLIS continues its mission with events such as the annual 4th of July Parade, arts and crafts classes and story time for children. Riding the Flying Horses Merry-Go-Round is a tradition for many families that come to Watch Hill every year.

The society also sponsors programs for adults as well as alternating Art and Photo Exhibits to showcase the talents of residents. See our events page for upcoming attractions and events!
